Colleges for a 2.5 GPA

What colleges will accept a 2.5 grade point average?

What colleges can I get into?

Graduating with a high school GPA of 2.5 places you within of the academic range at colleges like Shaw University, Saint Augustines College and Paul Quinn College. CollegeSimply has analyzed the incoming freshman grade point averages for a large portion of U.S. schools and selected 36 colleges where students have a competitive chance of getting in with a 2.5. Below are some of the top ranked colleges which have historically accepted students in the 2.5 range plus or minus .2 grade points (2.7 to 2.3). Scroll down further to sort and filter the full list and see your admission chances at each school.

Is a 2.5 good in high school?

A 2.5 is well below the U.S. average high school GPA of 3.0 and further beyond the average 3.15 GPA for college-bound students. High school freshman and sophomores still have time to pull their GPA up from a 2.5 to a 3.0 which is much better for applying to colleges. Juniors and seniors face more limited options. If you graduate high school with a 2.5, you have some traditional selective four-year college choices. You will find more options if you also consider colleges that have open admissions to all students regardless of GPA.

Can I raise my 2.5 GPA?

  • High School Freshmen
If you finished freshman year with a 2.5, you have plenty of time to raise your GPA but your opportunities are more limited. The highest unweighted GPA you can get to by the end of first semester senior year when you apply to colleges is a 3.57 - if you were to somehow get straight A's from here on out. More realistically, if you study and get B's while maintaining a 3.0 in upcoming years you can raise your GPA to a 2.86.
  • High School Sophomores
By the end of sophomore year, more than half of the grades you will report on your college application are set in stone. If you finish sophomore year with a 2.5, the maximum unweighted GPA you can get by the end of first semester senior year is a 3.14. However, this only possible if you get straight A's. More likely, if can get B's while maintaining a 3.0 you can raise your GPA to a 2.71.
  • High School Juniors
After junior year, you only have one semester to possibly raise your grades before most college applications are due by January. With a 2.5, the maximum unweighted GPA you can get by the end of first semester senior year is a 2.71. If can get all B's next semester you can raise your GPA to a 2.57 that you can submit with your college application.

What is a 2.5 GPA?

A 2.5 is equal to a 78% on the standard U.S. high school unweighted 4.0 scale. The letter grade equivalent of a 2.5 is a C+ average.
