Overview

Shaw University, founded in 1865, is a private historically black university located in Raleigh, North Carolina, offering a suburban campus environment within a short distance from the amenities and opportunities of a major city. As the first historically Black institution of higher education in the Southern United States, Shaw holds a significant place in American history and continues to make an impact through its commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility. In the most recent statistical year 2,435 prospective students applied, and 1,486 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 200 enrolled in the school.  900 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 167 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $11,808 plus fees of $4,672.
