Overview

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), located in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, was founded in 1956 as a branch unit of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge. The public, historically black university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs across its colleges, with Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and Social Work being particularly prominent. With a predominantly urban campus, the institution provides both on-campus housing and a commuter-friendly environment. SUNO maintains an open-admissions policy, welcoming a broad range of students from diverse backgrounds. The university is not specifically renowned for its athletics, focusing more on academic and community endeavors. In the most recent statistical year 928 prospective students applied, and 868 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 134 enrolled in the school.  1,056 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 894 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $4,484 plus fees of $2,987.
