Dillard University

Overview

Dillard University is a private historically black university nestled in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1930 through the merger of Straight College and New Orleans University, Dillard carries a legacy of liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on research and public service. The campus is noted for its oak-lined avenues and a mix of modern and historic architecture, including the historic Rosenwald Hall. Academically, Dillard is known for its programs in nursing, business, and the humanities. The University maintains a holistic approach to admissions, evaluating students for their potential beyond test scores and grades, which results in a moderately selective admission process. Most students live on campus in one of the University's residence halls, fostering close-knit educational and living environments. Dillard's athletics, known as the Bleu Devils and Lady Bleu Devils, participates in NAIA Division I, although it is not primarily noted for athletic prowess.

In the most recent statistical year 5,052 prospective students applied, and 4,036 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 334 enrolled in the school.  1,162 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 62 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $18,280 plus fees of $1,944.
