Overview

Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is situated in the suburban environment of Stony Brook, on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 60 miles east of New York City. Founded in 1957, the university has established a robust academic framework that includes highly regarded programs in mathematics, engineering, computer science, biochemistry, and marine sciences. With a moderately selective admissions process, Stony Brook attracts a diverse undergraduate population. The campus features modern architecture with facilities designed to facilitate research and innovation. In the most recent statistical year 40,513 prospective students applied, and 19,908 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 3,347 enrolled in the school.  21,993 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 3,717 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $7,070 plus fees of $3,490.
