Overview

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is a private research university located in Worcester, Massachusetts, approximately 50 miles west of Boston. Founded in 1865, WPI offers a distinctive education that blends engineering, science, technology, and mathematics with humanities and arts. Known for its project-based curriculum, the institute emphasizes a real-world approach to learning that integrates theory and practice. WPI's campus provides a collaborative environment set within a compact urban area, featuring a combination of modern and historical architecture including the notable Earl Bridge. The institute houses students in a variety of residential facilities, ranging from traditional dormitories to apartment-style living. In the most recent statistical year 11,599 prospective students applied, and 6,667 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,354 enrolled in the school.  5,971 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,337 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $56,000 plus fees of $1,096.
