Grambling State University, located in the small town of Grambling, Louisiana, is a historically black university founded in 1901. Approximately five miles west of Ruston and north of Interstate 20, the campus is situated in a rural setting amidst rolling hills in the northern part of the state. The university is distinguished by a commitment to arts and education, and is known specifically for its strong programs in nursing and computer science. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered across four colleges: the College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies and Research. Application to Grambling State University is considered moderately selective. The campus features a mixture of contemporary and historic architecture, and provides on-campus housing options for students. While Grambling State is recognized for its academics, it is also notable for its athletic teams, known as the Tigers, particularly in football, where it has a storied history within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
