Overview

Wichita State University is a public research university located in Wichita, Kansas. Established in 1895 as Fairmount College, it became a state institution in 1964 and is now the third-largest university in Kansas. The university boasts an urban setting, with a campus that highlights 20th-century architectural elements and modern facilities, including on-campus housing options for its student body. Wichita State University is known for its innovation campus, which fosters partnerships with businesses and industries in the applied learning and research fields. Academically, the university is recognized for its programs in engineering, business, education, and fine arts, with aerospace engineering being particularly esteemed due to the university's proximity to numerous aviation companies. In the most recent statistical year 8,899 prospective students applied, and 8,441 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,847 enrolled in the school.  10,738 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,478 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $6,848 plus fees of $2,018.
