Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), a public institution located in Fort Myers, Florida, offers an array of undergraduate and graduate programs with a focus on environmental sustainability, health professions, engineering, and business. FGCU, founded in 1991 and opened in 1997, is set on a 760-acre campus featuring postmodern architecture and a system of lakes and wetlands. The university is situated approximately 21 miles from Fort Myers Beach and close to the cultural and business opportunities of the larger Southwest Florida region. FGCU maintains a selective admissions process and provides on-campus housing options to accommodate its student body. The school is recognized for its strong emphasis on experiential learning, and its academic offerings include popular majors such as business, biology, and psychology. FGCU does not have a historical reputation for athletics; however, it competes in NCAA Division I as the Eagles for those sports in which it participates.

In the most recent statistical year 15,657 prospective students applied, and 11,647 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 2,803 enrolled in the school.  12,145 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 3,824 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $4,191 plus fees of $1,927.
