The University of Central Florida (UCF) is located in east Orlando, Florida, situated on a suburban campus 13 miles from downtown Orlando and close to the state's technology corridor. The main campus spans over 1,400 acres featuring modern academic buildings, residential communities, and natural areas including an arboretum and several lakes. Founded in 1963 as Florida Technological University to support the nearby Kennedy Space Center and Space Coast region, UCF has evolved into one of the nation's largest universities by enrollment. The university maintains strong programs in engineering, computer science, hospitality management, and digital media, with research facilities including the College of Optics and Photonics and the Institute for Simulation and Training. UCF provides housing for first-year students across multiple residential communities, and its athletic programs compete in NCAA Division I as the Knights in the American Athletic Conference.
