West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public, historically black college located in Institute, West Virginia, in proximity to the state capital of Charleston. Established in 1891 as the West Virginia Colored Institute, it has evolved into a fully accessible, racially diverse, and multi-generational institution offering a variety of undergraduate degrees. The university's campus is characterized by a mix of historic and modern buildings amidst the scenic Appalachian region. West Virginia State University is known for its strong academic programs in business, social sciences, and communications. It maintains a moderately selective admissions process.
