East Carolina University (ECU) is located in Greenville, North Carolina, approximately 85 miles east of Raleigh. The 1,600-acre main campus features Georgian-style architecture and consists of three distinct areas: main campus, health sciences campus, and west research campus. Founded in 1907 as a teacher training school, ECU has grown into a comprehensive public research university, with the Brody School of Medicine and College of Nursing serving as flagship programs. The university maintains a moderately selective admission process and is recognized for its programs in business, engineering, education, and allied health professions, while also housing one of the largest fine arts schools in the Southeast. Most first-year students live in one of the university's residence halls, and ECU competes in NCAA Division I athletics as the Pirates in the American Athletic Conference.
