Overview

Eastern Michigan University (EMU), situated in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a comprehensive public institution established in 1849. The university's campus is noted for its historic and extensive use of educationally purposed buildings constructed in the International Style, particularly those designed by architect Joseph E. Mills. Approximately 40 minutes from downtown Detroit, the campus blends urban and suburban environments, offering a diverse setting for its student body. EMU provides a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, with notable focus areas in education, business, and the health sciences. The university's admissions process is considered moderately selective. Student housing is available across numerous residence halls and apartment complexes on campus. While EMU fields a range of athletic teams known as the Eagles, it is recognized regionally for its achievements in football and basketball within the Mid-American Conference.

In the most recent statistical year 19,919 prospective students applied, and 16,578 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 2,177 enrolled in the school.  9,039 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 4,979 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $14,500 plus fees of $1,910.
