The United States Naval Academy, located in Annapolis, Maryland, is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen for commissioning primarily into the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Situated on scenic and historical grounds near the Chesapeake Bay, roughly 33 miles east of Washington D.C., the campus boasts a distinctive Beaux-Arts architecture. Established in 1845, the Naval Academy emphasizes a rigorous academic program alongside physical and leadership training. While highly selective in its admissions process, the academy is known for its strong engineering, political science, and oceanography programs. All midshipmen live on campus in Bancroft Hall, one of the largest single dormitory buildings in the world. The Naval Academy fields 33 varsity sports teams, known as the Navy Midshipmen, and is notable for its football program, which has a storied rivalry with the United States Military Academy.
