Claremont McKenna College, located in Claremont, California, is a private liberal arts institution that offers a distinctive educational experience through its emphasis on public affairs, economics, and government. Established in 1946 as a men's college and becoming coeducational in 1976, Claremont McKenna is one of the seven Claremont Colleges and situated approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The campus is known for its consistent use of Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style which complements the Southern California landscape. A highly selective college, Claremont McKenna endeavors to enroll students who present a record of academic success and leadership potential. Popular majors at the college include economics, government, and international relations, which align with the institution's focus on producing leaders in the fields of business, the public sector, and international affairs. While not primarily known for its athletics, the college participates in NCAA Division III sports as a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
