Western Oregon University (WOU), located in Monmouth, Oregon, is a public university established in 1856. It is situated about 20 miles west of Salem, the state capital, and within an ample distance from Portland, providing access to urban amenities while maintaining a small-town, rural campus environment. Known for its picturesque setting, the university's grounds feature a mix of contemporary and historic architecture, including Campbell Hall, designated on the National Register of Historic Places. WOU offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate and graduate programs, with education, business, and criminal justice being among the most prevalent fields of study. It has a moderate level of application selectivity, providing a range of opportunities for a diverse student body. On-campus housing is available, encompassing a variety of living options to accommodate students. While WOU is not primarily recognized for its athletic programs, the university does compete in NCAA Division II sports as the Western Oregon Wolves.
