Overview

Established in 1865 as part of the Morrill Act, the University of Maine is a public institution located in Orono, Maine, approximately 8 miles from Bangor, one of the state?s major urban centers. The university sits on a scenic 660-acre campus, characterized by a mix of classic and contemporary architecture surrounded by the North Maine Woods, lending it both a rich academic atmosphere and a connection to the natural environment. Known for an array of degree programs, the University of Maine is particularly recognized for its research and academic focus in areas like Engineering, Business, Education, and Environmental Science. It offers a selective admissions process. In the most recent statistical year 15,021 prospective students applied, and 14,114 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,940 enrolled in the school.  8,367 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 3,864 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $11,640 plus fees of $496.
