Overview

Wharton County Junior College (WCJC) is a public, two-year institution of higher education located in Wharton, Texas, approximately 60 miles southwest of Houston. Established in 1946, this community college serves students from four counties with its main campus in Wharton and additional campuses in Sugar Land, Richmond, and Bay City. The college environment fosters an intimate campus setting, primarily serving local commuter students, with housing options available for students who wish to live on the Wharton campus. WCJC offers a range of academic programs, with a noted emphasis on associate degrees in the arts and sciences, as well as applied-science programs and certificates in areas like health professions, which remain among the most pursued offerings. While the college maintains an open admissions policy, some programs may have selective criteria. WCJC does not have a particular focus on intercollegiate athletics; instead, its athletic activities are geared toward providing a platform for student engagement and physical education.

Wharton County Junior College has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  2,275 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 3,220 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $768 plus fees of $3,036.
