Garrett College is a public two-year institution located in McHenry, Maryland, situated in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. The rural 62-acre campus, established in 1967, features modern academic buildings and recreational facilities, including the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC). The college offers associate degrees and certificates with notable programs in natural resources and wildlife technology, business administration, and adventure sports management - the latter being one of the few such programs in the United States. Garrett College maintains on-campus residence halls for students and operates a competitive junior college athletic program, with its Lakers teams participating in NJCAA Division II competitions in basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.
