The University of Chicago is a private research institution established in 1890 and located in Hyde Park, a neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, approximately seven miles from the downtown Loop. Known for its rigorous academic programs and highly selective admissions process, the university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable strengths in economics, law, and the physical sciences.
