Located in the rural Green Mountains of northern Vermont, Johnson State College sits on a hilltop campus approximately 45 minutes from Burlington. The public liberal arts institution, which merged with Lyndon State College in 2018 to become Northern Vermont University-Johnson, occupies a 350-acre campus featuring both traditional New England academic buildings and modern facilities. The college maintains a core focus on environmental and natural sciences, fine arts, education, and wellness and alternative medicine programs, while also offering professional studies degrees. Students are required to live on campus for their first two years, with housing available in five residential halls that accommodate approximately half of the student population. The institution competes in NCAA Division III athletics as the NVU Badgers, primarily participating in the North Atlantic Conference.
