Overview

The University of Texas at Brownsville, located in the southern tip of Texas near the border with Mexico, is a public institution noted for its melding of American and Hispanic cultural influences, reflected on its campus atmosphere and architecture. Historically, it was founded as a community college in 1973 and later joined the University of Texas System in 1991. UT Brownsville has since then offered a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs with notable emphasis on bilingual education, nursing, and business. While the university provides a relatively less competitive admissions process, it ensures a comprehensive educational experience with a focus on research and community engagement. The campus boasts residential housing for students seeking an on-campus living experience. The University of Texas at Brownsville has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  1,676 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,972 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $1,800 plus fees of $1,948.
