The Technical College of the Lowcountry operates its main campus in Beaufort, South Carolina, located approximately 40 miles north of Savannah, Georgia, in the heart of the coastal Lowcountry region. The public two-year college maintains three campuses: the primary Beaufort campus, the New River Campus in Bluffton, and the Hampton Campus, serving students across four counties in South Carolina's southern region. Originally established in 1868 as the Mather School to educate the daughters of freed slaves, the institution transformed into a technical college in 1972 and adopted its current name in 1988. TCL offers associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates with notable programs in health sciences, business technology, and industrial technologies, while maintaining an open admissions policy to serve the local community. The college primarily serves commuter students and does not provide on-campus housing.
