The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA), located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, stands as a specialized institution providing concentrated training in aviation maintenance and electronics fields. Situated approximately 8 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, PIA extends an opportunity for students to study near one of Pennsylvania's major urban centers. Founded in 1929 and originally linked with the pioneering efforts of Glenn Curtiss and Orville Wright, the institute carries a storied history within the realm of aeronautics education and training. PIA is distinctly recognized for its Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) program, designed to equip students with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications necessary for careers in aviation maintenance. The campus does not traditionally promote a residential college experience, thus it lacks on-campus housing facilities, but it does foster an environment focused on hands-on technical instruction. Admissions are somewhat selective, with an emphasis on candidates demonstrating a keen interest and aptitude for technical skills and aircraft systems.

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  541 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 0 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $16,995 plus fees of $150.
