Overview

The Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture, also known as IAIA, is a public tribal land-grant college in Santa Fe, New Mexico, emphasizing the arts, culture, and histories of the Native American peoples. It provides a unique educational environment with a diverse Native American population and focuses on contemporary Native American art. Founded in 1962, the institute is nestled in the scenic and culturally rich Southwest, not far from the state capital and about an hour's drive from Albuquerque. The campus is known for its incorporation of Pueblo Revival architectural elements that complement its desert setting. IAIA offers undergraduate degrees across several disciplines, with a strong emphasis on studio arts, indigenous liberal studies, and creative writing. The selectivity of admissions is typically moderate as the institution aims to serve a broad spectrum of Native American nations. While IAIA does not have a traditional athletic program, it provides on-campus housing options and facilities specifically designed to support the educational and cultural needs of its student body.

Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  315 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 553 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $4,926 plus fees of $635.
