Chief Dull Knife College

Overview

Chief Dull Knife College is a public two-year tribal land-grant community college located in Lame Deer, Montana, on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Established in 1975, the institution is named in honor of the Northern Cheyenne Chief Dull Knife, reflecting the college's commitment to preserving Cheyenne culture and language while delivering post-secondary education. Offering certificates, associate degrees, and transfer programs, Chief Dull Knife College primarily focuses on liberal arts, science, education, and vocational training tailored to both Native American and non-Native American students. The school promotes accessibility with an open admissions policy. The small campus provides a more personal, focused educational environment with some on-campus housing options available. Despite its size, Chief Dull Knife College does not have an extensive athletic program and is not recognized for competitive sports. Its rural setting places it in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 100 miles from the nearest major city, Billings.

Chief Dull Knife College has an open admission policy which permits enrollment by any high school graduate or GED holding student.  91 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 130 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $1,960 plus fees of $300.
