Mississippi University for Women, located in Columbus, Mississippi, is a public university that has a unique historical distinction as the first public women?s college in the United States, established in 1884. Its campus encompasses both contemporary buildings and historic structures, reflective of its long-standing presence in higher education. While the university originally admitted only women, it became coeducational in 1982. Situated in a small city, it is approximately 150 miles northeast of the state capital, Jackson, and near the Alabama border. The academic profile of Mississippi University for Women includes strong programs in nursing, education, and culinary arts, attracting students with interests in these fields.
