Transylvania University, located in Lexington, Kentucky, is a private liberal arts college founded in 1780 as the first university west of the Allegheny Mountains. Its urban campus exudes history with its early 19th-century architecture, encompassing approximately 48 acres near the heart of downtown Lexington, about 80 miles from Louisville. Known for its rigorous academics and highly selective admission process, Transylvania offers a range of undergraduate programs with particular strengths in pre-medical education and the liberal arts. The university provides on-campus living options in residence halls. With a faculty-to-student ratio that promotes personalized learning, Transylvania University cultivates an environment conducive to academic inquiry and exploration.
