Overview

Transylvania University, located in Lexington, Kentucky, is a private liberal arts college founded in 1780 as the first university west of the Allegheny Mountains. Its urban campus exudes history with its early 19th-century architecture, encompassing approximately 48 acres near the heart of downtown Lexington, about 80 miles from Louisville. Known for its rigorous academics and highly selective admission process, Transylvania offers a range of undergraduate programs with particular strengths in pre-medical education and the liberal arts. The university provides on-campus living options in residence halls. With a faculty-to-student ratio that promotes personalized learning, Transylvania University cultivates an environment conducive to academic inquiry and exploration.

In the most recent statistical year 1,781 prospective students applied, and 1,617 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 281 enrolled in the school.  954 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 25 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $41,900 plus fees of $1,770.
