Overview

Maharishi University of Management (MUM), now known as Maharishi International University, is a private university located in Fairfield, Iowa. Founded in 1973 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the university integrates a consciousness-based education approach with traditional academic programs. The campus environment is notable for its emphasis on sustainable living, including eco-friendly buildings and organic vegetarian meals. Situated in a small town setting, the university lies approximately 115 miles southeast of Des Moines. Applicant selection is considered holistic, with an emphasis on the potential student's commitment to the university's unique educational philosophy rather than solely on traditional academic metrics. Popular majors at MUM include Computer Science, Business, and Art, with the university being particularly known for its Computer Professionals Program. In the most recent statistical year 70 prospective students applied, and 66 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 36 enrolled in the school.  1,744 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 929 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $16,000 plus fees of $530.
