I can only speak about the downtown campus. I took one class in Lincoln Park and it was a bad experience for me. The vibe in Lincoln Park felt more entitled than the Loop Campus in terms of racial equality and friendliness. I felt more comfortable in the Loop Campus. My biggest grape with DePaul is that they don?t do enough in helping minorities, people with disabilities, First Gens. find employment. As students with disabilities. I?ve been out of college now for seven years and I?m still unemployed. I have a great GPA, I did my undergrad and graduate programs, at DePaul?s Loop Campus; So why is this happening? I wrote the deed at the time of this problem (I was blown off). I?ve been to networking events, job fairs, I have used the Alumni Share Knowledge network, I have used Handshake and all the different job boards , that DePaul encourages students and alumni to use. I?ve had my résumé crafted at least 7 to 10 times and still I am unemployed. I graduated owing over 144,000+ tax. I have a BA from SNL and a MFA for CDM. I thought I would be a film appreciation instructor. You still need experience, you need scholarly articles, to be published, you need internships, you need something other than just the degree. My programs did not provide me any internships assistantships, anything that could show that I have some experience other than the actual classes. Also, I had a few instructors that had a God complex and were harder on minorities. 2 of them were in SNL. I also had a couple of anal retentive career counselors at SNL. Other than that, it was a pretty decent experience, but not worth the price. (definitely find out what your student fees are paying for, because they won?t tell you unless you ask them). Also, haggle and negotiate your loans because I met people who were working and still getting some of their classes for free when I?m on Public Assistance and taking out every loan to pay for my classes. I didn?t know I was supposed to get T-shirts and other things every quarter from the student loan fees). Being a first generation college graduate I just knew I was going to have a good paying career after graduation, and finally get off, welfare. DePaul taught me to dream big and I did, I just don?t understand why I?m still unemployed, still on welfare. Their feedback has been ?There?s no guarantees?. I wish they told me this before I took on so much student loan debt, instead of selling me a dream.

Great education, good price-performer, teachers are top-notch, and large alumni network. It?s located in a terrific Chicago neighborhood, so if you are looking for a school in an urban setting this is a top choice.

The Lincoln Park campus is beautiful but the school is integrated throughout the city, requiring daily use of the train. The school lacks a typical college atmosphere in that they do not have a football team, so no tailgates, etc. The campus seems to lack the cohesive student body activities of many mid-western colleges. Even though the school is Catholic, they are very tolerant of all religions, cultures and sexual orientations. Housing is very expensive. As for safety, the school has a great security force, but it's only for the Lincoln Park Campus, so when they ride the train downtown for class, they are on their own. My daughter witnessed two pretty bad assaults (and ended up accompanying one stranger to the ER) but never had any problems herself.
