Overview

University of Mary Washington (UMW), located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is a public liberal arts and sciences university founded in 1908. The institution is situated approximately 50 miles south of Washington, D.C., offering students access to both a quaint, historic city environment and proximity to the nation's capital. The UMW campus is noted for its Jeffersonian architecture, encompassing a blend of traditional and modern buildings that house a diverse range of academic programs. The university fosters academic rigor through a selection of more than 60 majors and programs, with a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and a liberal arts core. Popular majors at UMW include Business Administration, Psychology, and Biological Sciences. While the college has a moderately selective admissions process, it remains accessible to a broad range of students. On-campus living is championed through residence halls and apartments, reinforcing a cohesive living-learning community. University of Mary Washington does not place a central focus on athletics, but it does support a variety of NCAA Division III sports teams, known as the Eagles, for student participation.

In the most recent statistical year 4,709 prospective students applied, and 4,040 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 749 enrolled in the school.  3,080 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 677 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $8,938 plus fees of $5,296.
