Overview

Longwood University is a public institution nestled in the heart of Farmville, Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of the state's capital, Richmond. Established in 1839, Longwood stands as one of the oldest universities in the United States, with a campus featuring a blend of historic and contemporary architecture. The university's academic profile consists of more than 100 majors, minors, and concentrations, with particular recognition for its programs in business, education, and communication studies. With a moderately selective admissions process, Longwood extends opportunities to a diverse range of students. The university promotes on-campus living with a requirement for freshmen and sophomores to reside in one of its residence halls, fostering a close-knit residential community. Although Longwood may not be predominantly known for its athletic programs, it competes in NCAA Division I as the Lancers.

In the most recent statistical year 6,042 prospective students applied, and 5,304 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 794 enrolled in the school.  3,184 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,174 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $8,753 plus fees of $6,087.
