Samford University

Overview

Samford University, located in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, is a private Christian institution founded in 1841 as Howard College. With its campus featuring Georgian Colonial architecture, the university encompasses a traditional atmosphere. Samford offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable emphasis on Nursing, Pharmacy, Business, and Law. The university provides a residential experience, with the majority of undergraduates living on campus in a variety of housing options. While academically rigorous, Samford exhibits a moderately selective application process. Its proximity to Birmingham allows students access to urban cultural and professional opportunities while enjoying a tranquil campus setting. Although the university supports a wide range of sports, it is particularly recognized for its teams competing in NCAA Division I athletics as the Samford Bulldogs.

In the most recent statistical year 4,337 prospective students applied, and 3,611 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 974 enrolled in the school.  5,451 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 231 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $35,750 plus fees of $975.
