Overview

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), established in 1874, is a public research university that marries the academic environment with the scenic surroundings of the city of Reno, close to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains. UNR's campus is distinguished by its historic Jeffersonian architecture, particularly in the historic quadrangle at the campus' core. It offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable strength in fields such as environmental sciences, journalism, and engineering. The university maintains a moderately selective admissions process. On-campus living is facilitated through a variety of residence halls and student housing options, catering to a significant portion of the student body. In the most recent statistical year 9,398 prospective students applied, and 8,047 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 3,296 enrolled in the school.  15,477 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 5,468 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $8,133 plus fees of $814.
