Overview

Established in 1850, the University of Utah is a public research university located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The campus is set against the backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains, incorporating design elements characteristic of the Southwest and featuring red sandstone buildings, a reflection of nearby Red Butte Canyon's natural geology. Academically, the University of Utah is known for its research-intensive programs, including those in medicine, engineering, and business. The university operates on a semester system and offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. With a competitive admissions process, the institution attracts a diverse student body. In the most recent statistical year 21,072 prospective students applied, and 18,781 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 5,520 enrolled in the school.  28,070 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 6,664 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $8,175 plus fees of $1,140.
