The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), established in 1867, is a public research university that epitomizes the land-grant institution's values of innovative research and democratic education. Located in the twin cities of Urbana and Champaign in east-central Illinois, approximately 140 miles south of Chicago, UIUC boasts a diverse and vibrant campus set within a traditional college town atmosphere. In the most recent statistical year 63,257 prospective students applied, and 28,354 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 7,957 enrolled in the school.  47,046 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 9,870 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $12,474 plus fees of $3,240.
