Overview

The University of West Alabama, located in Livingston, is a public university established in 1835. Emphasizing access and affordability, the institution harbors a largely undergraduate population, with a select number of graduate programs. Situated on a rural, 600-acre campus, the university is approximately an hour's drive away from the city of Meridian, Mississippi. Architecturally, the campus blends contemporary structures with a few historic buildings, maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity. The University of West Alabama offers a variety of academic programs with notable strength in education, business, and natural sciences. While the university maintains a less competitive admissions process, it is focused on cultivating a diverse and enriching academic environment. In the most recent statistical year 3,131 prospective students applied, and 2,156 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 311 enrolled in the school.  4,986 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 874 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $9,100 plus fees of $1,890. University of West Alabama is designated as a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) and receives federal grants supporting the school's efforts to serve low and middle-income Black Americans.
