Bluefield State College

Overview

Bluefield State College is a historically black college located in Bluefield, West Virginia. Offering a suburban campus environment, this public institution was established in 1895 and has since evolved to emphasize the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Occupying a position in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains, Bluefield State College is approximately 100 miles from Roanoke, VA. The institution is characterized by moderately selective admissions and offers a range of bachelor's degree programs, with notable emphasis on engineering technologies and nursing. While traditionally a commuter school, Bluefield State has recently introduced on-campus housing options. It maintains a small-town feel with close-knit academic and social communities amidst a serene campus known for housing some facilities reflective of Georgian architecture.

In the most recent statistical year 813 prospective students applied, and 790 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 264 enrolled in the school.  990 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 316 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $8,840 plus fees of $1,000.
