Overview

Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is a private liberal arts university with an affiliation to the Mennonite Church USA. Established in 1917, the university provides a faith-based environment within a scenic Shenandoah Valley setting, roughly two hours from Washington, D.C. EMU offers undergraduate, graduate, and seminary programs, with a particular emphasis on peace, justice, and cross-cultural understanding. Wide-ranging undergraduate programs highlight disciplines such as nursing, education, and environmental sustainability, with the institution maintaining a reputation for a strong emphasis on community service and social impact. EMU's campus features modest architectural designs with facilities that accommodate on-campus student living. The university is characterized by a more inclusive application process compared to some institutions of higher education. While EMU does maintain athletic programs as a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, it is not predominantly recognized for its athletic accomplishments.

In the most recent statistical year 1,144 prospective students applied, and 1,138 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 203 enrolled in the school.  876 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 458 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $40,590 plus fees of $400.
