Norwich University, located in Northfield, Vermont, stands as the oldest private military college in the United States and the birthplace of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). Established in 1819, the university presents a unique blend of military discipline, civilian lifestyle, and rigorous academics. The campus is characterized by its historic architecture, notably the iconic 19th-century buildings that reflect a military heritage, and is situated within a rural, picturesque setting about a three-hour drive from Boston. The institution offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees with notable programs in engineering, criminal justice, and nursing. Norwich maintains a moderately selective admissions process. Residential life is an integral part, with all Corps of Cadets members living on campus; civilian students have housing options as well. Athletic programs are recognized to some extent, particularly in ice hockey and rugby, with teams competing as the Norwich Cadets.

In the most recent statistical year 4,268 prospective students applied, and 3,526 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 632 enrolled in the school.  2,715 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 648 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $42,860 plus fees of $2,480.
