Overview

Hardin-Simmons University (HSU), established in 1891, is a private Baptist institution located in Abilene, Texas, a moderate-sized city approximately 150 miles west of Fort Worth. The university's 220-acre campus is distinguished by its blend of historic structures and modern facilities, creating a vibrant educational environment. HSU offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable academic strengths in education, theology, and health sciences. While HSU maintains a selective admissions process, it is known for being moderately accessible to a broad range of students. The university provides on-campus housing options to foster an immersive educational experience. Although HSU's athletic program, featuring the Cowboys and Cowgirls, competes in the NCAA Division III American Southwest Conference, it does not emphasize athletics as a core identity.

In the most recent statistical year 2,314 prospective students applied, and 2,042 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 350 enrolled in the school.  1,576 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 189 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $30,694 plus fees of $992.
