Overview

Claflin University, a private historically black university located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, is approximately 40 miles southeast of Columbia. Established in 1869, Claflin is known for its rich history and tradition of promoting access to higher education for students of diverse backgrounds. The campus boasts a mix of contemporary and historic buildings, with a serene, compact setting conducive to academic pursuits. Claflin offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs with an emphasis on empowering students through a liberal arts education. Known for its Biology, Business Administration, and Psychology programs, the university maintains a moderately selective admission process. On-campus housing is available, providing students the opportunity to engage in the university's close-knit educational environment. While Claflin competes in NCAA Division II athletics, it is primarily recognized for its academic offerings rather than its sport programs.

In the most recent statistical year 7,568 prospective students applied, and 5,903 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 384 enrolled in the school.  1,665 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 165 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $16,476 plus fees of $570.
