Please *only* attend Lock Haven Univ. if all you do is classwork and sleep. Student life outside of club meetings is absolutely non-existent. People, other than employees/faculty/staff, will not give you the time of day to say hello. Very apparent "clique" atmosphere where if you do not exhaust all your energy, friends are hard to find. You will not get weird looks for what you are wearing or what you look like, but people are well-reserved and will not be as friendly; you will get ignored for the most part. I have experience at another university of 50,000-plus students and overall is a lot better if you want people to be friendly and outgoing. Imagine a super, super small high school; it is equivalent to that. ONLY academics and sports are stressed as important; professors and coaches will go to tooth and nail to teach/research.

I graduated from Lock Haven. The campus was beautiful when I was there. Most dorms are on the hill so be prepared for lots of steps. I majored in psych and enjoyed my psych professors. Some of the professors in other departments tended to be flaky at times. Like others have said it?s hard to make friends and typically the group I was friends with all came from my high school. Party life, I went to state college or Williamsport for parties. Lock Haven is a small town, not much to do there.

I am a current student here, and will be transferring out after this spring of 2022. I was very disappointed with my experience. Most students are not friendly, and some professors were incredibly rude. It?s very clique based and very hard to make friends as the school is small.

Lock Haven?s acceptance rate is over 95%. That means they will admit pretty much anyone. Apply to other colleges that are more selective and use Lock Haven as your back-up.

Lock Haven is a great school for academics, the professors are great and most classes really to teach you a lot. The campus is beautiful and on campus housing is great, but very expensive. There is NOTHING to do in Lock Haven, and the population is so low that is makes it harder to make/maintain friends. There's always a lot of drama and gossip because its such a small school and you're constantly seeing/hearing of the same people. Its a lot like High School. My advice would be to get involved as soon as you come here, and to be creative with ways to get out and have fun. Don't count on parties- they suck.

I transferred from Lock Haven to a different state university after completing my freshman year. I found this town to be horribly miserable and the campus to be clique based (in terms of the social atmosphere). Also, now that I attend a different university, I see how their academics are lacking (at least for my major, Secondary English Education). Many of my professors at LHU were disorganized and rude. Do your research and make sure you visit multiple times before deciding. Don't fall into the bullsh*t gimmicky nonsense they spew at you during orientation and stuff. Choose your university based on academics and a positive environment. Personally, I got nothing but misery attending this LHU.

Choose a major, and research the schools you think you might want to attend. Schools specialize without specializing. Some have better programs than others. Lock Haven for Sports Medicine, Kutztown for Art, Bloomsburg for Business, etc. LHU has a very good Education department and one of the best Foreign Exchange programs in the country. If you want to travel abroad, this is your place. This is a safe place, but the town is small. If you want a party school, look elsewhere. I have two degrees, from two different eras and I can tell you the professors are top notch and available to help.

Before attending this university please research their drop out rate and graduation rate. It is very low. Staff and professors are not available to help the students to succeed (unlike what you will be told when you attend tours and orientations). The reality does not match-up with the hype. Be cautious. Once you choose an unsupportive university such as this, you are stuck with your choice. Your poor choice of school may have a serious negative effect on the life of the student and the student's family.
