Overview

Carlow University, nestled in the heart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a private institution that offers a close-knit campus atmosphere with a focus on liberal arts education. Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1929, the university has since grown to incorporate a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable emphasis on health professions, business, education, and social sciences. The campus, notable for its gothic architecture, provides students with a blend of traditional charm and modern facilities. While Carlow maintains an inclusive admissions policy, the process remains selective, aiming to enroll students who demonstrate a strong academic potential. Students have the option to reside in on-campus housing which contributes to the university's community feel. Although Carlow is not primarily recognized for its athletics, the university does offer various sports programs and competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

In the most recent statistical year 1,124 prospective students applied, and 1,042 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 199 enrolled in the school.  1,233 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 871 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $32,402 plus fees of $1,098.
