Lees McRae College

Overview

Lees-McRae College, located in Banner Elk, North Carolina, is a private liberal arts institution immersed in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Established in 1900, the college offers a scenic setting at an elevation that distinguishes it as the highest elevated campus in the eastern United States. With an expansive 460-acre campus, students at Lees-McRae enjoy an environment that blends historical buildings with modern facilities. The college provides a range of academic programs, with particular strengths in fields such as nursing, wildlife biology, and performing arts. With a broadly inclusive admissions policy, the college draws a diverse student population. On-campus housing is available, including residential halls and apartments, aiming to enrich the student experience. Despite not being widely renowned for its athletic programs, Lees-McRae supports various sports teams known as the Bobcats, competing primarily in Division II.

In the most recent statistical year 1,733 prospective students applied, and 1,063 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 212 enrolled in the school.  821 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 34 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $26,490 plus fees of $2,350.
