Finlandia University

Overview

Finlandia University is a private institution founded in 1896 by Finnish immigrants and located in Hancock, Michigan, in the state's Upper Peninsula. The campus offers a serene setting against the backdrop of a close-knit small town, situated on a hill overlooking the scenic Portage Lake. The university is known for its strong emphasis on liberal arts education and pre-professional studies, with notable programs in nursing, physical therapist assistant, and art and design through its International School of Art & Design. Finlandia University has a somewhat selective admissions process. It provides on-campus housing options to foster an immersive educational experience. The institution, reflecting its heritage, features Finnish-inspired architecture across its buildings. While Finlandia does not widely stand out for athletics, the university competes in a variety of sports as the Finlandia Lions within the NCAA Division III.

In the most recent statistical year 1,385 prospective students applied, and 922 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 117 enrolled in the school.  401 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 49 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $25,346 plus fees of $600.
