Longy School of Music

Overview

Longy School of Music, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, stands as a distinguished institution dedicated to the study of classical music. Founded in 1915 by Oskar Longy, the conservatory is situated near Harvard University and offers close proximity to Boston's rich cultural milieu. Emphasizing intensive, conservatory-level training, Longy boasts collaborative programs with Bard College and offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in various musical disciplines, with particular recognition in programs such as vocal studies and composition. The school sustains a highly selective admission process, seeking students who exhibit strong musical potential. While the campus does not support large-scale athletics, the conservatory is notable for its intimate and artistically vibrant atmosphere. In the most recent statistical year 82 prospective students applied, and 73 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 11 enrolled in the school.  280 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 35 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $49,500 plus fees of $1,175.
