Overview

Baker University, established in 1858 and located in Baldwin City, Kansas, holds the distinction of being the state's first university. Approximately 45 minutes southwest of Kansas City, the university's historic campus is characterized by its gothic architecture, notably the iconic Osborne Chapel, which was relocated from Sproxton, England. Baker's academic profile includes undergraduate, graduate, and pre-professional programs, with strong emphasis on liberal arts education. Among its offerings, the School of Education has developed a notable reputation. Admissions at Baker University are moderately selective, focusing on a holistic review of applicants. Student housing is available, with a variety of living options to accommodate undergraduate students. In the most recent statistical year 776 prospective students applied, and 712 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 232 enrolled in the school.  960 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,145 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $31,620 plus fees of $700.
