Overview

Upper Iowa University is a private institution established in 1857 and situated in the rural town of Fayette, Iowa, roughly two hours from Des Moines. The university is housed on a scenic campus known for its blend of traditional and modern architectural styles, offering a range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Among its academic offerings, the university is noted for an emphasis on business, education, and human services majors. Upper Iowa operates on a unique term schedule, with six eight-week terms throughout the year, allowing students the flexibility to take courses at a pace that suits their personal schedules. With an open admissions policy, Upper Iowa University is less selective, aiming to provide access to higher education for a diverse student body. The campus includes residence halls, providing students with options for on-campus living. While Upper Iowa University does not boast a reputation for high-profile athletics, it does compete in NCAA Division II sports with teams known as the Peacocks.

In the most recent statistical year 1,405 prospective students applied, and 762 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 216 enrolled in the school.  1,717 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,355 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $32,589 plus fees of $1,050.
