Overview

The University of Chicago is a private research institution established in 1890 and located in Hyde Park, a neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, approximately seven miles from the downtown Loop. Known for its rigorous academic programs and highly selective admissions process, the university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with notable strengths in economics, law, and the physical sciences. The campus architecture reflects a blend of traditional English Gothic with modern elements, providing a distinct backdrop for the college's intellectual atmosphere. In the most recent statistical year 37,522 prospective students applied, and 2,039 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 1,729 enrolled in the school.  16,392 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,947 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $61,179 plus fees of $3,081.
